The Siren Call Of The Highway

Country/Folk/Bluegrass singer Alison Krauss sings a song called "Gravity". It's a hauntingly beautiful song about the siren call of the highway that speaks to me like few other songs do. It's one of my favorite songs. It so fits what I love and the emotions I feel on the road that I used a line from it as the main title of my blog here.

Music is not only an auditory medium, it conjures up images in the head when you are listening to it. I would suppose that primitive dance and then opera were the first marriage of music and image, and it evolved into the music videos artists make today.  Krauss never did a music video for "Gravity", but some enterprising and very talented truck driver did and posted it to You Tube.  I ran across it one sleepless night trolling through You Tube on my Apple TV.

I may have to try creating a version myself, using my GoPro helmet cam on the motorcycle sometime, but I'm not sure I could do this version justice. The best part of this creative trucker's take on this song is that I recognize 90% of where he filmed it, having ridden these endless highways myself on the motorcycle -- in Utah, Arizona, Nevada and California. It's my old (and still is) my stomping grounds. I've often fantasized about being a OTR trucker. Watching this makes me wanna look at some of the trucker schools I see advertised...

I thought I'd post it here for fun -- listen to it, see if it calls you to the highway like it does me.
