Well, here I am in Key West, Florida -- quite literally the end of the road and as far away from Seattle as one can get and still be in the continental US. My journal title is "just like the sky, the road never ends", so it begs the question, am I really at the end of the road? Not at all, because the road keeps going if I turn around!
It was a spectacular ride down US-1 across the Keys, just as I remembered it -- long stretches over blue green water, and small islands, paralleling the abandoned Florida East Coast Railway which built down here in 1908. The thing about Key West is that since it is the end of the road, it tends to collect a lot of flotsam and jetsam of humanity -- characters who can't get far enough away from the real world. You can't get further away from Key West -- or Provincetown, MA, or Homer, Alaska among other end of the road towns. It makes them all that much more fun. Tomorrow we turn around and head back home to Seattle. THIS is when and where the ride -- and the story -- starts.
