The Man With The Wandering Soul

Yes, I admit it, I have a wandering soul.  I've been this way for as long as I can remember.  My folks infused it in me, or encouraged it or both.  We took countless road trips when I was a kid -- me laying in the cab-over part of a camper on the back of a pick up truck, looking out the window for miles and wondering where the road was taking us.

It's May -- time for what has become an annual ritual for me -- a solo bike trip to somewhere.  I've been wanting to visit some friends in Austin, TX for some time, and so I'm aiming that direction.  Whether or not I get there is weather dependent -- and to some degree time dependent.  The weather this spring in the West has not been kind to Utah and Colorado, with late spring snows.  It's been nice here, but a bit wet, and I've been scanning the weather web sites constantly, and I've been itching to get going for a few days.

Now the bike is loaded -- I've got my journal in the tank bra, and fresh tunes on the i-pod.  The gas tank is full, the bike has new tires and a rebuilt front-end and is good to go.
So in the morning I'll hit the road about dawn -- head over Snoqualmie Pass, down the Yakima Canyon and down US-95 through Central Oregon, and shoot for Klamath Falls.  Then it will be on to the East Bay area to see my friends Dave and Elayne and the kids, and then after that?  Well, we'll see what the weather man says, and which way the wind blows.
