California Dreamin'

All the leaves are brown, and the sky is gray...California dreamin' on such a winter's day.

Another gray February Sunday in the northwest.  The combination of out of town guests, and cold gray weather meant no getting out on the bike this weekend.  As I was loading up the Hummer with the laundry, and getting ready to head south to Olympia for another week, I glanced over at the three bikes -- lined up like horses at a hitchin' post, battery tenders glowing green, the bikes all wiped down and clean, I paused for a moment and sat on the Black Street Bob.  This is the bike I've ridden some 30,000 miles, gone coast to coast and around the West on.  I'd not even sat on it for more than a month.  So I threw a leg over her, stood her up and put my left foot out on the forward controls, gripped the handlebars and sat back for a moment staring out at the driveway.  I wistfully dreamed of the coming spring when I could head south to California on her, my back against the T-bag suitcase, and an open road ahead.
Callendar says it's day 29 of the session.  That means 76 more to go.  If I imagine as three 25 day chunks it doesn't seem quite so far away.

Today as Lee was helping me with the lighting - I brought him downstairs to show him the Ultra (he rides and wants to buy a Harley for him and his wife). I told him about the Corner to Corner ride this past Summer and traced the route on the blank wall as if the US map was on the wall of my garage...
