Border To Border

I thought as long as I was in San Diego today I would to ride to the end of the road here -- the Mexican Border.  By doing so I actually will have ridden the entire length of the Golden State on this trip -- and by piecemeal, border-to-border along the entire West Coast.  I can now truly say I've ridden ocean to ocean, border to border!  I suppose its one of those things for bragging rights only -- I didn't actually cross the border, having forgotten my passport.

I rode down I-5 early this evening -- it was very warm and pleasant, and no traffic.  Coming up to the border there is one last exit before you have to go through Customs and Immigration, so I exited off and tried to find a side road that would lead up to the Berlin Wall that we've erected between Mexico and the US.  (Unlike the Canadian border which is wide open and is hardly even marked.)

My first attempt ended up behind a Jack In The Box that sits on the border -- I really don't want to know what is in those cans stacked along the fence.
Then I found another side street which paralleled the railroad tracks, but a rather unpleasant Homeland Security Agent (Sieg Heil!) in the SUV up above the center of the bike windshield wouldn't let me get any closer than this.
Finally I found another spot with an OK view down and over the fence into Tijuana -- the building with the pointed roof and chimney is in Mexico, and the fence itself is along the border.

Having gotten as close as I could, I turned around and got on the freeway and headed north back to my hotel in downtown San Diego.  In the morning I'll head east -- mostly on freeway again I'm afraid, into Arizona and down to the Mexican border town of Nogales, AZ.
