Farewell to 2008 - Annus Horribilis

So I'm sitting here in the Delta Airlines Crown Room Club in the Salt Lake airport with a damnable 4 1/2 hour layover flying from San Diego home to Seattle on this, the last day of 2008.  As Queen Elizabeth II remarked the year Charles and Diana got divorced, Windsor Castle burned, and it rained on her trip to Canada, it has been an "annus horribilis" - Latin for horrible year.  Aside from a couple of very good things -- namely the Corner To Corner motorcycle trip Tony pandabuff  and I went on, and some new wonderful and supportive friends in my life, (mainly Tyler tkdtiger  and Garland garlandj  ) who have helped me in ways I can't begin to explain,  this year has been one that I will mark down as my own "annus horribilis".  I won't take the time to go into the litany of things that make this the year that for the most part I wished never happened.  If one is to look for a bright spot however, the things that happened this year sent me on a path that I hope will bring me a better and more happy life in the years ahead.
One of the mottos I live by is "as you ride down the road of life, don't spend more time looking in the rear view mirror at where you've been, but focus on the road ahead and where you are going or you'll likely run off the road completely."
I'm not going to spend time looking back -- but I'll focus on the road ahead of me now, and hope that coming year isn't as bad as the past one.  Let the sun set on 2008 -- goodbye, you will not be missed.
May all of you have a better 2009 as well.
